Priorities

the theory is, if you lose one sense, the other remaining ones are heightened, becoming super senses. alternatively, with clothing, if you subtract a major characteristic (color, material, fit... are there more?), i think the result would be that focus would then be put on the absence, highlighting what is missing. emphasizing one over the others creates a standout feature. that’s one thing. but a missing quality takes the spotlight.

do you always pay attention to all three?
which could you give up most easily?

I kind of loosen my standards when I buy vintage or thriftshop clothing. Sometimes the fabric and/or color are so amazing and non-reproduceable (is that a word?) that I will forgo fit. But only toward the too big side, never the too small.

(If it's too small, and the fabric and color are still too amazing to pass up, I sometimes buy it anyway, to repurpose the fabric. Is that pathetic? I just love vintage fabric.)

I don't think I could give up fit; that's definitely the most important for me. Fabric matters a lot too, so I guess that leaves me with color. Does that mean an all-black wardrobe? I DO love color....boy, this is a tough one!

i think re today's post, my top choice would be "material" (got to have that soft-lux as you put it) as priority with color or pattern second. fit i often would be flexible on.

carlene - i'm not buying purely for love any more, so it has to have the other stuff. let's see, i would say, given my new restrictions, or rather, my desire for a smaller wardrobe... it has to have all three! :D if i had to drop one, i think it would be color, but i feel hesitant.

iheartfashion - yeah, i don't know what the specifics would be if color were given up. i would rather wear all white head to toe than all black because that would look bold, rather than like i was hiding. but every day all white would end up not being so good. at one point i contemplated only wearing monochrome outfits head to toe. not the same color every day, but every day all one color - navy, red, grey, etc.

anonymous - in the past i have looked for the other 2 first, and if the skirt was a size too large, i would alter it, but that i suppose is not really dismissing size then. wearing it too big would be dismissing size.

anonymous - i have to admit, when i found it i knew it was perfect for my post, but after i put it on the blog and looked at it again, i laughed out loud too.

I’d forgo color; more than half my closet is black anyway. But fit, I don’t think can be sacrificed. With a good fit one can even get away with not the best of material.
