What a fun question!

This may sound brand-oriented, but it's not: a first- or second-year black Balenciaga First handbag. I had one a few years back and had to sell it, and it's *the only* bag I've ever loved. The leather, the size, the handles/strap, small signs of use by myself and others . . . everything about it was perfectly matched to my style.

From there, I'd find myself some clothing with more character, but that I still felt comfortable in.

answer in the form of a question:
a) what is a Chanel j12 white ceramic chronograph watch w/o the diamonds? (sorry hedi!)
and b) nope! i worked to hard for the wardrobe i have to chuck it all away.

A watch for me, too! Hermes Kelly watch with orange band. It'll fit right in.

:) <--- Happy just thinking about it.

Carlene said...

...oh, before you leave for Hermes, it's the Kelly II, not the one with the padlock.

I would buy a chanel 2.55
and then probably buy 9 more in all different colors
great post idea

1st purchase: a pair of brown polished calf Hermes riding boots...whoops, there goes the whole 10 grand! Maybe there'd be enough left over to buy my husband a nice man-bag.
And yes, they'd fit in with my current wardrobe nicely!

OHMYGOD you're giving away MONEY now???
I thought this was just a fun blog to read?!
Do you want to direct deposit, or mail me a check?
It is only marginally wardrobe-related, but I'd buy an entire set of Tumi luggage.

anonymous - i really feel for you about that bag. love and loss, that's really bad. (and i'm really really really sorry you had to sell it. xox)

candid cool - i've always wondered about that watch, what part is ceramic?

carlene - i'm glad you clarified that it wasn't the padlock kind. i understand that one can be quite a pain to wear. now i'm only aware of 3 hermes watches, the padlock, the H hour and the cape cod. what does the kelly II look like?

coco - great minds think alike. i'm not sure it would be #1 for me - really really hard to pick what would be the very very first thing i would buy, but that would be on the list, maybe at the very top...

iheartfashion - i don't think that would use up all the 10k. would your fella want his man bag from hermes too?

travelgretta - do you recommend tumi then? i am toying with the idea of a new suitcase/travel bag (but clothes, shoes, etc. keep distracting me. i'd rather have the clothes and carry it all in a trash bag, frankly).

lol carlene, you are making me laugh.
so it does the double wrap like the cape cod. thanks for the visual - when i come into my millions, i'll surprise you with an orange box.

the band

editor said...

candid cool - that's what i thought. very cool. does that make it fragile? i love the idea that it must feel heavy in a good, weighty kind of way.

Candid Cool said...

i doubt it. i've never tried it on, but have restrained myself from drooling on the arm of people that have had it on. :)

i'd prefer that watch over an engagement ring!

editor said...

candid cool - very very wise. i would prefer A LOT over an engagement ring. that's a definite regret for me. wouldn't give back my plain wedding band for anything in the world ;) but the engagement ring...oops.

Wow, Hermes is going to be busy if we all suddenly come into money! Can I use the money for a plane ticket to Paris and then just buy a scarf with what's left? No, I wouldn't really blow the whole 10k on one pair of boots; maybe I'd go to an equestrian shop (that's not Hermes) for the riding boots, and I'd get my husband a man-bag at Etro or maybe Tumi. They really do make great luggage. I got my daughter's school backpack there and it's virtually indestructible! I think it will last right through college (and she's in Kindergarten now)

editor said...

hmmm, iheartfashion - i'm thinking no, the plane ticket would not fall under legitimate wardrobe spending. BUT, with the $ you would save on shopping with this award, you could just pay for the parisian trip yourself. so now that you've had time to sleep on it, cool minds prevail and it won't be hermes boots after all? interesting. but would the riding boots still be your first pick?
how's the little one liking kindergarten? big transition from nursery or no?

Iheartfashion said...

Yes, still the riding boots, but not from Hermes, so I'd still have at least $9000 left.
The little one loves Kindergarten, but I can't say the same for my first grader, who would rather spend all day sculpting and is in his own world most of the time.

oooh. late to the discussion, but LOVE the question.

without a doubt, the plum cashmere jersey lanvin sweatpants. at 1800. they were insane to even consider. even for me, a die-hard rationalizer. but with mad money. . . MINE.

and yes, believe it or not, they would fit in perfectly with the wardrobe. with a nice charcoal cashmere turtleneck and my brown suede loafers sans socks. with my camel vintage ysl blazer, white v neck tee and white adidas. i could go on.

and with the left over money, i'd paint my car cadmium gray. all my funds now are going into new brakes and carburators and such. it would be nice to make the most critical accessory for a guy fit the wardrobe even better.

god, i am shallow.

editor said...

never too late to answer. love love that second outfit!

shallow? does a shallow person quote capote and say things like:

"give me a world of individual THINKERS, and i'll show you a world of individual STYLE.

by removing fear from life, there is no need to question oneself."??

nah

quote me to myself, and you'll own me, baby! :)

^^ i have ALWAYS wanted my very own "landis." ;)

I know exactly what I'd buy :) The black patent Dolce & Gabbana oxfords that are not in this season's strict budget. They would fit right into my existing wardrobe.

a. said...

a. custom-made black leather riding boots for my skinny-ass calves. someday...

b. oh yes, of course, everything would fit together.... i've made too much of an investment for it not to!

These Marc Jacobs gladiator-esque boots. On sale, cause I'd still shop the sales for sure, and I think they'd blend into my current wardrobe nicely.
