Inspiration

vintage dolls. specifically for hair and makeup.
they are creepy but also very ... imperfect and fragile and sometimes fearless, cunning, disinterested.
the big blush, the styled but frazzled hair. much more accessible beauty to me than airbrushed models. weird.

Agreed, they are weird. I can't muster up the ability to say they're inspirational, because they freak me out so much. They're cool, though.

I like them a lot. It is a different kind of beauty than what is in fashion magazines and the like. Dolls are childish and sometimes broken, and often mismatched. They helped teach us to dress ourselves and interact with each other. Before we learned to judge right and wrong, and what we like and hate, we played with dolls. Dolls seem to be comfortable in anything they wear!

They are gorgeous. I especially like the ones from the 20s (I think they are, anyway...the bottom 2 on the right?). And the one with the orange coat. I don't find them at all creepy.

(Now clowns, they are creepy.)

My favorite book when I was little was A Little Princess. During the rich little girl phase of her life, she had a doll (or maybe dolls, I don't remember) and their wardrobe was described in great detail. I was infatuated. I could see it all so clearly in my mind. I think I read that book 50 times.

It's remarkable how many hairstyles there are, and how real some of them feel, especially the blonde in the orange coat in the second to last row.

I could never deal with dolls though. They're right up there with clowns in the "scary" category.

What comes after terrifying? The featured doll (ratted blonde) looks like Hilary Clinton after Super Tuesday!
