For the greater good

sometimes i feel bad that i rely so heavily on e-shopping. if i want cute boutiques to populate my neighborhood, shouldn't i literally support them by giving them my business? when i made a large purchase not so long ago, my taller half rationalized that i was helping the economy. what a self-less act.
i appreciate the influx of tourists dropping their savings here during our slump. if the tables were turned, would you hop across the border for a shopping excursion?

could you ever be induced to shop just to support your local economy?

no, i couldn't shop only in Chicago. If I were forced to shop only in the States, I would survive. Although I would frequent stores which carry majority of European designers.

right now im not liking online shopping either. the never knowing if its going to fit, and how quick they are to take your $$ and then so slow to return it.

and I am so thankful for the European tourists.

in better economic times, i guess i shopped more & supported my local economy.

Doubtful when it comes to fashion. The only local business I support is the neighbourhood baker- I would hate him to go out of business and for me to get stuck with supermarket bread.

I use anything I can to justify my needless shopping!

In a word, yes. There are some awesome things in my local economy. I'd have to buy less, though, cuz it's very expensive here.

I windowshop in an attempt to support my local economy, but the only thing I really spend money on locally is food. I love the idea of supporting far-off small businesses, but hesitate when ordering from stores like Anthropologie, Jcrew, Williams Sonoma etc.

I take delight in supporting those local artisans and designers who are world class, and posted on the clothing version of the Hundred Mile Diet.

But...if the stripes don't match, no cash.

For fashion shopping, I will for sure visit, but the end of day my heart has the vote! If they have the things I love, I will... otherwise I cannot, as... as we are not rich yet.... heheee

I have to say that I'm quite lucky in terms of that I do have a couple of nice shops nearby xx

I'm sure I could, and anyway, we have really great shops here.
