Power to the people

does a fashion tyranny exist in your reality?
do you feel pressure/influence from one?
can you identify who comprises it?

No, but there is a fashion tranny.

Ha. Ha.

Seriously, the snobby voices in my head are tyrannical enough.

No, I'm my own fashion tyrant. There's no outside pressure.

Happily, no. In fact, there never was a single, solitary person who cracked the whip. Back in the day, it was just the usual: Cliques. But now that I've left high school and college behind (oh so very far behind), I am free of fashion tyranny. And thank GOD because I really looked awful in the things I was "supposed" to wear back then ...

Well, yes actually. It's called Lucky magazine and I always regret picking one up.

I'm definitely my own fashion tyrant. Sad but true.

My fashion tyrant is ageist - most things I pick up I have to consider 'is this too young/old for me?'. The pressure comes from me alone, unfortunatley because I am my own worst judge.

interesting most of you take full responsibility for any attitudes/values you have internalized. other than a mention of Lucky magazine, no one blames/credits other influences?

I'm still in school, and sometimes it's hard to not being wearing what everyone else is. But I refuse to wear those awful Uggs! That's probably my number one hated trend. But even though I hate Uggs, sometimes I wish I had a pair because....well, EVERYONE has them. I can't lie to myself, I do want to dress like everyone else somtimes. But luckily that desire passes and I'm back to my own sense of style in no time.

Clinton and Stacy, I think. Or whoever it is that says bootcut is for everybody. There's definitely a tyranny that exists in reality in my world, since I had to go to a store WITHOUT salespeople in order to buy my skinny jeans.

your post galvanized me to write a post I've been thinking about for weeks now -- and to answer your question, mine is an inner fashion tyrant -- with a loud and nagging voice!
