Who is the competition

when you look at a designer's most recent collection, which do you more often look at it in relation to, the same label's past work, or other designers' current collections?

Another good question! Huh. I immediately compare it to last season (especially if it's a line with a new designer, which happens a lot lately), then look at it in relation to the others of the season.

I love that photo over there by your profile...

unless it's a designer i'm not familiar with, i usually look at the collection in relation to their previous work. i don't spend much time looking at everything that comes out of a season (that's what editorials are for).

the designers previous collections. i love watching the seemless progression from the original house designer to the current designer.
would have to say Dior has been the most exciting.....from dior to ysl to bowen to ferre to galliano. what a true fashion adventure!

Hm. Neither, I think. I have a dreadful memory, and am easily distracted by shiny, pretty, and new. More future-focused than historical. Perhaps counterproductive, but true.

i'm pretty much comparing to other shows. i think of it as a horse race, to see who has the biggest lead and the most impact and the furthest pull-away-from-the-packness of the group.

that way i can win money if i bet right.

What a great question!

I relate it to past work. I like to think a designer can keep my interest for life once I'm hooked. Sometimes, that changes.
